I have a camera that currently operates on a houshold 240v power suply converted to 12v 1000ma... I need to run this through a car ciggarete lighter power point..

I am planning to just run it straight through without a converter or anything... Will this work? Or will I fry the camera?

One thing to remember is that the nominal voltage of automotive electrical systems is 13.8 volts (when the engine is running) and may, in some cases, go as high as 15v. Having said that, I myself haven't had any trouble running 12v equipment from a car cigarette lighter outlet including cameras. The cigarette lighter outlet is well and truly capable of delivering your 1 amp of power.
