Hi All,

I hope you good people can enlighten me on this,

I find capacitors fascinating, the more I find out about them the more questions arise,

Lets say I have a basic capacitor with two conductive parallel plates,
inbetween them I have multi-layer dielectrics of different types:

########### conductive plate
--------------- Dielectric layer 1 with d constant k
========= Dielectric layer 2 with d constant k1
+++++++++ Dielectric layer 3 with d constant k2
########### conductive plate

Will it even function as a capacitor? if so what effect does that have on the overall capacitance?

Many thanks.

Why would you have that? What's the use of that?
Complex to fabricate and therefore expensive. This is at least an unusual construction.
Will it even function as a capacitor?
Yes.

It depends on the thickness of the different layers. You'll have to calculate an effective/equivalent dielectric constant and thickness for the layer sandwich.
