Can a 1200 uf 35V capacitor be substituted with a 1500 uf 35V capacitor?

Most often yes, but capacitors also have other spec's that may be just as important or even more (temperature range, ESR, ripple current tolerance, etc.).

Thank you Resqueline - I have a magnavox 37" TV 37MF321D. The LED power light comes on but the set will not come on. According to internet research, this model TV has a reputation and the suggestion is to replace specific capacitors; one being the 1200uf 35V. I have quick access to a 1500uf 35V but would have to order the other and just be patient. I have pulled the 1200 and it has additional markings LZ 105C P628 VENT. Thanks for your precautionary input!

In those applications it is imperative to replace the bad cap's with ones of equal or better spec's. Data sheets can be found on the 'net.
LZ is the model designation, but are you able to identify the brand? And what is the brand and model of the ones you have quick access to?

Thank you Resqueline - Yes the brand name of the one I took out is CapXon. The replacement, not yet put in, would be 1500uf 35v Capacitor 105c High Temp, Radial Leads by NICHICON. I have also ordered a CAPACITOR 35V 1200UF LOW ESR HITEMP,HIFRE.RAD 12.5DX35.5LMM by DISTRIBUTED BY MCM but I don't expect it to get any time soon.

Here's the LZ series datasheet, but as you can see your size (12.5 x 38 mm) isn't listed. I'd expect it to have a spec of around 0.01 Ohms and >3 Amps ripple though.
Nichicon's can be real good but I'd need to know which series it is. The Panasonic FM series is good, the 12.5 x 30mm size has a spec' of 0.013 Ohms and 3.63 Amps.
