capacitor help

hi i am just replacing a capacitor in my tv but the one i took out had a x on the top but the one i got from maplins has a k on the top are they the same & can i use it. the uf is the same & the volts are am i ok to put it in or is ther a different sort thanx

I don't know what the 'x' or 'k' mean.
Typically, the ufd and voltage is what matters, you should be ok.
Make SURE you have the polarity correct, (the plus sign in the correct thru-hole),
or you're going to turn your cap into a big firecracker.

The X and K are vents. Should the capacitor build internal pressure those areas would open up to "safely" release the pressure.

You can use another cap providing the uF ratings match and the voltage rating is equal or better.

The shape of the pressure relief is of no importance (except that it can be an aid to reveal counterfeit parts).
What can matter more is the ripple current & temperature rating. If you post the brand & model of the original and the Maplin part we may be able to say if it's ok or not.
