I have an Akai CTV 2114 , which has a strange problem. It works fine
most the time, but then suddenly the display starts to shrink vertically
( horizontal length remaining fine ), with lines of breaks in between.
Some times it comes to worse condition, and there will only be a very bright
horozontal line. I opened the TV and couldn't find any dry / loose contacts
inside. One strange thing I found was that the CRT board plugged on the
picture tube was looking like burnt on the component side, near two of the
RGB driving transistors. Unfortunately I don't have schematic of this model.

Can anyone help me find the problem ?

Thanks in advance,
George

Repair the vertical deflection circuit, ESR the caps in that circuit and the
power supply, resolder the vertical output device(s), resolder the video
output devices and don't worry about the disclouration on the crt pcb. If
you are unsure of how to do this please take the set to a qualified
technician for repairs.
