Bose Companion 3

Purchased the Companion 3 to make up for the woefully inadequate sound
of my new Olevia 32" LCD HDTV. Two small satellites and a
subwoofer/control unit with a wired combination I/O, volume, touch
sensitive muting wired remote.. I don't impress easily but I was very
impressed with the quality of sound this thing provides. Almost sounds too
good for my bedroom TV audio system. And at $199.95 USD, it was very
reasonable priced.

Is this some kind of troll ?

"no highs, no lows, it must be Bose'.

It's junk! Unmitigated garbage! Anyone who'd even _think_ of buying one is
so mentally defective they should be sterilized to prevent their
reproduction!

In all seriousness...

Best Buy has compact Sony speakers on sale tomorrow for $25 a pair. You can
probably get a cheap stereo receiver for less than $100 to power them. No
"subwoofer", but the overall sound might be better. (The Sony has a separate
mid/woofer and tweeter, not a single driver. This usually produces better
sound.)

Another sale item at Best Buy tomorrow is a complete Sony "home theater"
system: a 5-disc DVD player, four satellite speakers, one dialog speaker,
and a "subwoofer" -- for $200.

Not having heard the Bose or Sony, I can't pass judgement on which has the
better sound -- or whether either of them is "good" in an absolute sense.
But it seems likely you could have gotten something as good (probably
better) for less money.

It's very possible that I could have found something as good for less but
I am hard to please where sound is concerned. Forget about the Bose name
and price, I made the purchase based on how it sounded and the
compactness. Remember this is in my bedroom so I don't have the room
for a stereo and larger speakers. I liked how the speakers attached to the
TV making the stereo image focus in the middle of the screen. I'm well
satisfied, that's all that matters.

Right. No argument. I just hope the Bose wasn't the only product you
listened to.

As for good sound for fusy listeners... If you're ever in the Seattle area,
give me warning and I'll let you hear my Apogee/Parasound system, which is
amazingly amazing.

So if you haven't heard them, and "can't pass judgement on the sound" - DONT
! Meat is a well respected and qualified poster on here, and he certainly
doesn't need you to tell him that he is any kind of "mental defective".
Coming from you, that's a real joke. Sheesh.

You're just so predictable. Do you have 'Bose detector software' running on
your computer ? Ooh Bose. Ooh here comes good 'ol Bill Sommerwhatsit to
stick his oar in and start bleating about what rubbish the kit is.

DON'T! Meat is a well respected and qualified poster on here, and he

You have an annoying habit of considering people who disagree with you as
stupid.

You're just so predictable. Do you have "Bose detector software" running on
your computer? Ooh, Bose. Ooh here comes good 'ol Bill Sommerwhatsit to
stick his oar in and start bleating about what rubbish the kit is.

Mr. Daily, every time I start to think you have some sense, you blow it. Did
you actually read what I wrote? Or is plain English incomprehensible to you?
Mr. Plow got it, and laughed, as I intended.

I've found that stupid, mean-spirited people are the first to poke fun at my
name. You're obviously disturbed that anyone dares to disagree with the
omniscient Mr. Daily, and can't refrain from attacking them. A person who is
so disturbed (as you are) that other people hold differing opinions is
neither mature nor intelligent.

I've been seriously auditioning "good" audio equipment for more than 30
years, and I reviewed it for more than a decade. I have a published track
record -- and some respect -- as a person who knows the difference between
accurate and inaccurate reproduction. I know a thing or two.

One of those things is that full-range dynamic drivers aren't usually very
good. Particularly when made of paper, they tend to have a dry, flat, rather
grainy sound, which is probably the result of high IM. Using a separate mid
and tweeter generally results in cleaner, more-transparent sound. On this
basis, a properly designed two-way system (which the Sony probably is) is
likely to be better than the single driver used in the Bose.

Do you have experience with live recording? Do you have a really good audio
system? If you don't, then SHUT UP about things you have little knowledge
of. Your opinions of the _absolute_ quality of the Bose Wave Radio is not
consistent with that of most experienced listeners, so I see no reason why I
should have any general respect for your opinions.

My point -- which was perfectly clear -- was not that Mr. Plow should not
have bought the Bose, but that he should not have bought it without
auditioning other products. If he did, and he likes the Bose, then who am I
to disagree?

One of the things I like best about my friends is that most of them are
aware, as I am of myself, that they don't know everything. You, Mr. Daily,
are dull, humorless ignoramus.

I think actually, that he was laughing AT you, not WITH you. I don't contest
anything you say you stupid STUPID man. I made no comment about speakers and
whether multiple driver types are any better than single. Once again, it was
YOU that went off on a tangent. The point that I was making was that the
word "Bose" came up in the group, and once again, there were you like a rat
up a drainpipe, giving out with one of your idiot comments. You may think
that it was clever and witty, but actually, it had the usual Sommerwerk or
whatever you call yourself 'barbed edge' to it. If that's your idea of
humour, and how to win friends, then you've got a lot more work to do on
your act, than I thought.

And don't tell me to SHUT UP on a REPAIR group, just because I am not a
'pseudo' recording engineer. I have forgotten more about repairing audio
equipment, than you will EVER know.

Dull humourless ignoramus ? Talk about pot calling the kettle black. At
least my contributions on here, which I hope I'm respected for by everyone
except YOU, are intended to help people with REPAIR (get it- REPAIR ?)
issues, not to put them down for choosing to buy something that I don't
approve of. And it's you who descends into name calling first, but here's
one back at you. You are a twat. And stop calling me "Mr Daily". It's a nic
for goodness sake ...

I think actually, that he was laughing AT you, not WITH you.

Why don't you ask him? Mr. Plow? Are you there?

You're typical of most people. You have a limited range of things you're
knowledgable about (as I do), but you think you know everything (as I
don't). You sit in your own little parochial world, and whenever anyone
disturbs its stability, you blow your stack. I can just imagine how you
treat the insufferably stupid customers who come into your shop.

I was going to respond in excruciating detail, but decided to end my
comments with the following.

Yesterday, CNN showed a police video of an officer attempting to arrest a
driver. The offense? Speeding. The driver refused to sign the ticket, *
because he claimed the policeman had stopped him before the actual area of
the speed decrease.

The policeman didn't like that. Not one bit. As the driver walked away from
the policeman, the officer insisted that he "turn around", which the man --
who had no weapon, and was not behaving in a belligerent manner -- refused
to do. The policeman then pulled a Taser and used it.

That's you, Mr. Daily. If people don't think the way you do, you get totally
twisted out of shape. Arfa Daily, Mr. Taser-tongue.

* In the US, signing a ticket is a confession of guilt. You have to go to
court to fight it, and as the judges are invariably on the side of the
officers, few people fight their tickets.

Boy you're a piece of work. Twisted out of shape ? Stand back, pal, and take
a look at yourself in the mirror ...

As it happens, I've got the flu, and I'm feeling like shit, so don't have
the energy or inclination to fight further with you. In fact, I can't be
bothered with you at all any more. Mr Taser-tongue indeed. You have the
