So STM is ahead of Philips (oops NXP) and Siemens ( oops whatever they
call themselves now ... damned If I can remember - is it Infineon ? )

There's a moral in that. Don't change your name !
I'm not a marketing guy (thank bog) so I'm sure that I'm not capable
of understanding the reason behind abandoning so many well-established
and respected brand names.
I mean, I get why Philip Morris Tobacco Co. changed its name to
"Altria" (Philip Morris connotation = bad, evil company; Altria
connotation = who's that?) but WTF with the electronics firms?
