How come there's often a wide range in prices for the same part
at the same online shop? I can understand it when the same basic
device is made by different manufacturers, in different packages,
temperature range, tolerance, etc. But there still are often huge
differences for a product by the same company with no
sub-variant. To give just one example, the Indian branch of
Farnell (now element14) currently has three listings of the
Vishay TSAL6100 IR LED at Rs.2.90, 17 and 22 each. That's about
USD 0.064, 0.38 and 0.49 respectively, a ratio of nearly 1 to 8.
