    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy used electronics equipment such as power supplies?

Specifically I am after a dual quadrant power supply for testing of electronic charging circuits in our device.

The cheapest one I can find brand new is the Rohde & Schwarz HM8143 on RS Components which is £1,500 + VAT. Hoping to try and keep my costs down though.

    Thanks

Post in electronics forums ‘for sale’ sections.
Back of electronics magazines ‘items for sale’.
    Ebay.
    Gumtree.
    To name just a few.
Sometimes there are auctions for closed down labs or repair shops.
    Just have to keep looking.

Search for local tech club meet ups, Ham radio swap meets or "Hamfests"

When you say dual quadrant, I presume you mean that the supply can also act as a load if the output of the power supply is connected to another power source, i.e. when the voltage is positive but the current is negative.

If so, you could look on eBay or elsewhere for some of the old HP or Agilent system power supplies. Many of these can be operated in this regime, and the documentation is fairly easily obtained to verify whether they are capable of operating in this mode.
