Hello Stewart,
Something more up-to-date than "Art of Electronics".

To be honest, I have yet to see something better than AoE. Win is
talking about a new edition for a while now.

Hey, Win, any hint when we can pack the thermos and camp out in front of
the next bookstore?

Regards, Joerg

I would appreciate a few suggestions for the best available IC
oriented analog design book.

Preferrably one that includes a broad selection of building block type
circuits and covers at least a bit of CMOS, A/D, etc. (if possible)?

Something more up-to-date than "Art of Electronics".

Many thanks,

Stewart

Not the latest perhaps but a good read.

What are you laughing at? Win is a published author and you're just
an old crank.

Hey, his company is on Capp Street, just a mile or so from here.

Capp street is famous, but not for analog circuits[1].

I think Stewart was looking more for AoE type books, "circuit" design
in the sense of putting parts and blocks together.

It is interesting that there seem to be more good books about
designing ICs than about using them.

Jim Williams's two books are fun to read, but more a collection of
stories than a structured tutorial. A different guy wrote each
chapter.

Maybe he's on the other end of the street? :)

Is that in one of Willie's songs? I must have missed that somehow,

This old guy has had a pretty good run:

There was a better article on him in the National Post this morning
but it's not accessible for free online.

Hello John,

It is interesting that there seem to be more good books about
designing ICs than about using them.

It seems to be the same with universities these days. Young engineers
know a lot about the latest and greatest in VLSI tools and simulators.
But throw them a bag of parts to make an oscillator and they'll just
stare at it.

Their extent of hardware know-how is often reduced to buying PC parts at
Fry's and sticking them together. Heck, most of them can't even make
pizza from scratch anymore.

Regards, Joerg

Not with anchovies on there. At least not without a lot of Pepto-Bismol
afterwards.
