Battery for Winbook XLI Laptop

I contacted a battery store in Palo Alto about the battery for an Xli, and
they said they no longer carry them, since they have proven unreliable. This
might be the case. Certainly within three years of having this laptop, the
battery faltered. Any comments on the wisdom of buying a battery for this
laptop?

Why not ask Winbook/Micro Center?

Battery life depends on the type of battery (NiCd, NiMH, Li-Ion), the
type of use (from true portable - battery runs to shutoff to desktop -
always plugged in), and the quality of the charger.
Based on my experience as the supply depot for a conculting company, I
would expect about 2 years from NiMH or Li-Ion used in a mixed
portable/desktop environment.
Some lithium-based batteries have a "maximum number of charge cycles"
life, which is not dependent on the level of discharge - just the
number of times it's put on charge.
My personal laptop gets 2.5 to 3 years from a battery in a mixed
environment that's probably 10% portable and 90% desktop.

I think they'd tell me to buy a new Winbook.

Slightly changing the topic...
I've recently become familiar with the Li-poly batter for a small radio I
have (Pogo. It's Tivo for radio.). 500 charge cycles. From the day I bought
Pogo, battery charging seemed awkward. That is, the indicator would never
show full charge, and despite long charges would only stay charged for a few
days. It failed on me while recording an AM program for more than 90
minutes. I e-mailed the mfger, and they said pull it out for 24 hours, and
then recharge it. Seems like a short period to me. If that doesn't work, buy
a new one ($20) from them. It should go 7 to 14 hours of use on the charge.

Back on topic...
I just talked to a friend about my current old laptop, and he suggested
trading it in at <thelaptopconnection.com> near Sacramento. I'm going to
check that out. All I really want is an e-mail laptop that has a wireless
connection.

Thanks.
Slightly off topic ...
My Pogo radio (a small iPod-like radio that works like Tivo) has given me
trouble with charging from day one. The indicator goes about 1/3 up after
long periods of charging it. Since I was still able to use it, so I didn't
really get concerned. This weekend it died while recording 90 minutes of a
120 minute program when it was 'fully' (ha!) charged. I e-mailed the mfger
and they said it has a cycle life of 500, and that I should disconnect it
from the radio for 24 hours then charge it. Seems like a short period to me.
If that doesn't work, then I should buy a new battery, Li-poly) from them
for $20.
Back on topic ...
A friend told me about a place near Sacramento called
<thelaptopconnection.com> that sells used laptops. Maybe I can get one with
a wireless connection for e-mail. They accept trade ins. That's what I
planned to do with the Lli--e-mail machine with wireless. I'll explore that
road with them.

I'm doing well this morning. I thought I had a total failure of these two
similar responses, and started again. Take either one. They are virtually
the same.

They offer a variety of batteries.
But they do not carry the one for the Lxi.
