dear friends
i need to design a battery charger fo my 12v 2.5Ah battery kindly suggest me a simplest circuit thanks
i used a 220v to 12v step down transformer and a diodes full wave bridge and capacitor of 25v 100uf capacitor but its not charging kindly do help

If it is a lead acid battery, it should be charged at 13.8V to 14.5V - in reality the charger should be current limited and charge in 3 stages to keep the battery in the best condition and not damage it.

Here is a possible circuit:

Charge with a constant current of 250mA for 14-Hours. Don't worry a bout the output voltage the battery will take care of that, just have at least 18V on the input.

As mentioned above if you want to do it properly then two more stages are needed topping charge which reduces the constant current when the battery voltage gets to about 2.3V per cell. Then the float voltage which is 2.25V per cell and is needed to prevent the battery from loosing any charge whilst not in use.

ok thanks yes its lead acid battery not liquid sorry .....any safe circuit to convert ac to dc if i use a bridge rectifier infront of 220volt to 24 volt transformer...thn a capictor of 1000Uf ....it will work or not

You could use the set up you tried before feeding into the circuit. The voltage will be a little low but should work.

I thought it was 12Vrms output of the secondary, now it's 24V? Which is it?

it was 12v u are right but it was not charging my battery ..so i decided to use 24 v output might it work actulay my transformer is 12+12 output and when i used a12V from secondary it was not charging it

Do you bother to read the responses. Your questio has been answered - you need a circuit.

yes a need a circuit my tranformer i think is not working correctly it is not throughng that much ampere which i need to charge my battery i think a tronformer of 4amp will work right

Go reread this thread - the circuit is provided as are all the answers.
If you know better go damage your battery.
12V transformer -> rectifier -> circuit -> battery.

you didn't actually try and put 12V AC or 24VAC straight across the battery did you ??

no i didnt try this to connenct directly with the battery i placed a bridge rectifier and a capictor between a battery
