AVL?

Hey guys and gals,
What is an AVL in the electronics world? It seems to stand for
Approved Vendor List, which seems to me to mean a list of vendors,
that have been approved to do business with.

Is this correct?

I am being asked to create a master parts list with an internal
numbering scheme and call *that* an AVL.

This rankles me.

What's the right answer here?

TIA

That's my understanding. It's all tied up with ISO9001 requirements so that
every item used in a product can be tracked for reliability and subsequent
improvements.

Howdy,

Most companies I've worked for have an AVL or QVL which is a list
of vendor's part numbers that's tied to an company part number.

So the company part number points to a company specification
and to a list of vendor's part numbers approved to the specification.

Just an aside...
Orders should reference the company part number so the vendor won't
change their specification without notice and a C of C (certificate of
compliance) should be included with the order by the vendor stating
that the parts meet the company specification.
