I'm working on "the best desk lamp ever", and one thing I want to do is have an audio mode. It would have a 3.5mm in and out, I'd plug my iPod into the in, and my stereo in the out, and it'd play the sound, while having the lamps led on only when the sound is x or louder. How would I do this?

You would need a circuit that would cross the input of the audio in line's (L&R) and then use an amplifier IC to create a ground that is only connected to the LED's when the signal is coming from the audio in. Here's the one I tried here; but didn't work out so well.

I'll wait for Steve or Rleo to post. They're way better then I am at this stuff.

If my time allow me. I'll buy TDA2050 and build this audio LED Amplifier. So I can see what's really wrong with the circuit.
My daugther was also interested on this.:D

Good luck Rleo. If I may suggest a website... you get EXCELLENT prices..
All components except TDA2050..

For the TDA 2050 TDA2050..

Note that the capacitor at the top is in nanofarads not microfarad's. :)

Yes C5 is 100 nF or equivalent to 0.1 uF. It's a noise filter capacitor.

Planning to buy parts here locally. I'll build this circuit after my CDI project installed in my car,
