My Sony CD player has failed. It spits any CD out immediatly. This
started gradually. It's possible the player was unused for a year.

I've opened the case and find that it's complete dust-free. When I
try to play a CD it never spins up.

Is it worth replacing the CD assembly ?

Can someone give me a URL for Sony parts ?

Thanks

Probably not, what is the model # and how old is it?

The only way to know for sure is take it to a knowledgeable Sony tech, and
get it checked out. Machines from this era are definitely better built, and
in my view CD player performance has not changed significantly for the
better since about 1989. Whether it's worth it or not depends on how you
feel about these things.

Sony CDP-X11ES, a "premium" unit, part of a system and it's big
advantage is that one remote control manages the entore system.

About 10 years old.

It's probably a bad laser assy. Call Asti Magnetic at 1-800-221-1828. They
have Sony pick-ups listed between $19 to $39. Give them the model #, or take
it to a local repair shop for an estimate.

Does it have leaf switches to detect door closure? It's possible that they
could have corroded with age. Alternatively, optical sensors may be full of
dust.
