I need a help with an applevision 1710: where the brightness is to high with
retrace lines and cannot be turned down. I can't see any broken resistor.

You'll probably need to measure and adjust the high voltage to the
anode of the CRT. WARNING this can be very dangerous. The CRT is
designed to run at 26 kv. If the voltage is high, you'll need the
Apple Display Service Utility to make the proper adjustment. This
approach should be taken before attempting a component level repair.

By the way - these monitors are crap. Apple had several warranty
extensions on them when they were newer. When they worked, they looked
very nice, but they were and probably still are distinctly unreliable.

Try going to: http://discussions.info.apple.com/

Someone there might be able to steer you towards a copy of the display
utility. However if you have a high voltage probe you might want to
measure the anode voltage. If you don't have the high voltage probe,
the display utility won't be of much help.
