for instance, is only available in the (closed) commercial version.

The more I look at various "open source" things the more this all
looks to me as "approved as safe to be open" source. All hardware
I have been interested in has been invariably held secret to a
sufficient extent to not allow complete software control by
anyone but those (this?)ones approved (by whom? - TBD)

Hardwre wise the PPC (older Mac) architecture gets about 50 % better
performance per MHz. Currently very little difference remains.
Software wise Mac has a solid intrusion resistant OS, while M$ products are
by track record, are marginally reliable and intrusion inviting.

I got my wife a Mac, after her Windows system tied itself in knots.
It's fabulous. The packaging and industrial design are stunning. The
OS is simple to set up and use, makes sense, is consistant, and seems
bulletproof. It powers up and down in seconds.

The only part we had trouble with was Word, written by you-know-who
hacks. It got tangled up somehow, so we shut down in frustration. The
next morning, it worked fine. I'm convinced that the Mac has a little
Word repairman running in background.

Windows damages itself, and the Mac OS seems to repair itself.

Windows has always been a badly bungled imitation of the Mac OS. Vista
sounds like more of the same, a bad imitation of Apple but using 5x
the resources.

I have to admit adding an additional 3 to 5 items of software (for M$Win
products, with more vunerabilities added by the office products) to protect
from even ordinary script-kiddies is hideously damn lame.

True enough, but if the damn thing works, and doesn't tie itself up in
knots on a regular basis, it is well worth it, IMHO.
You get your work done, and the dumb ass playbaby virus creating dickheads

Why do we glamorize "hackers" with a nice, pc name? Why don't we and the

Thanks for the reminder, BSD and OS X are not that far apart, OS X may
standard Berkeley spice directly.
