APC SUA1500 UPS Part

Does anyone have a scrap circuit board from an APC SUA1500? A small
transformer (T3) got broken off when the battery connector was tucked into
the case the wrong way. APC does not sell replacement parts; they want you
to send the unit to them so they can charge hundreds of $ to fix it. No way
am I going to cater to their greed, when I'm perfectly capable of repairing
the unit myself.

This should not even be legal. It absolutely infuriates me. This is
how I deal with that kind of bullshit. If it's a current model go to a
store and buy a replacement for cash. Remove the part you need and
stuff the bad one back into the new unit. Return the defective UPS to
the store for a refund and APC can then have it for breakfast. Rage
against the system.

Someone once asked me to pull that trick with a 1500-watt AC inverter of
theirs, but I politely refused. I'm sure they'd somehow figure out it was
tampered with, and void the warranty.
When I asked the tech on the phone why they wouldn't sell me a part, he
gave some lame excuse (sounded like it was read from a script) like "well,
we need to have all those parts here to work on the units that come in". I
basically told him that was a load of crap, and he didn't say another word
(probably embaressed at having his ignorance exposed).
I'm going to try re-winding the transformer and see what happens, I guess
at this point there's not much to lose.
One thing's for sure - I'll never buy another APC.

Do you think any other UPS manufacturer will supply schematics &
repair parts?

In the old days they did.

For example, I have an Emerson Electric AP10S On Line UPS Technical
Manual with full schematics. I don't like your chances today, though.

If this is the reason for refusal to supply parts then wouldn't the same apply
to the repair of almost every mains powered item of equipment? I think your
supposition is incorrect. If it was that way then nothing would be repaired
except by return to the manufacturers of the equipment.

How many consumer items in a home require the high currents in the
battery bank, or have to be serviced live at that level of risk? I had
one tell me that their lawyers told them not to provide manuals or parts
to anyone who wasn't factory trained. All it takes is a couple darwin
awards, and they get nervous.
Lawyers are what's wrong with this world......
