put 12V across it would be the first obvious go/no-go test
or use a multimeter in the Ohms range

A continuity test is also a valid test.

which is why I suggested the multimeter in Ohms range as a second alternative ;)

I know, just stating it explicitly, because the OP seemed unsure.

Right, I was unsure, but just for the record, and learning, I did measure ohms, and got 0.3-0.4, but I dont know if thats a good reading. How does one know? (bulb works, of course, and after Dave suggested to apply 12v, that fixed it ).

A good bulb will read very low in resistance, showing a connection, a bad bulb will read an infinitely high resistance or on most DMMs "OL" will be displayed meaning "Over Load" or "Over Level" depending on the situation.
