I have a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 hard drive from an old junked ps3. The drive is still good and i wish to use it with my pc but as an external drive.
Is it possible to hook up a laptop hard drive to a desktop via modified wiring? i am guessing yes, its just a smaller format.
Alternately, would it be possible to modify this hard drive into a usb mass storage device? Meaning wiring a usb connector to it somehow.
I have seen alot of projects in my searches but not this one and wonder if it is even possible.

Hi
Welcome to the forums

you can buy external hard drive cases designed for USB connection. They are readily available. All you have to do is install your HDD into that case.
Visit some of your local computer suppliers and you will have it up and running in no time at all :)

cheers

Is your hard drive SATA or IDE?

If your hard drive is IDE (it has 44 pins on it) these should do:

http://www.compusa.com/applications....5-PATA-Enclosure&Nav=|c:2781|&Sort=0&Recs=10

If your hard drive is SATA (it has two small 'blade' connectors on it, as seen here), these should do:

http://www.compusa.com/applications...d-Drive-Enclosure&Nav=|c:2781|&Sort=0&Recs=10

You will probably need to re-format the drive to work with a computer. This guide should help you out:
