mine has stopped giving me any volts/amps

petrol engine works ok
out of the alternator are 4 wires
black

white

black & green join together & go to 'n' on output socket
red goes to a capacitor
white goes to other side of cappy & 'l' on output socket

my meter measures red to green 3.6ohm
black to white 2.2ohn
non have connection to ground

all other connections open circuit

I'm no expert, but I'll take a stab:

Possibly the rotor has lost its residual magnetism that is needed
to start producing electricity when first started. I've seen this happen
in generators that have sat unused for long periods.

If the generator has brushes, you can usually give it the boost it
needs by briefly applying 12 volts across the brush leads. Hopefully
the brush leads have polarity markings or 1 is grounded, but it
won't hurt if you get it backwards, it just might not work.

Also, some brushless alternators have leads available on the rotor
itself for flashing/reflashing.

Both types can get flashed while Not Running.

I had an older generator stop producing power and it was because the brush
assembly overheated and, being set in plastic, had fused to the plastic such
that the spring loading could not feed the brush material forward to the
commutator as it wore down. Eventually, it stopped making contact. I would
check the brushes and make sure they are not bound up.
