ANN: Melb: new surplus electronic components shop

A new Surplus Electronics Component Shop has opened at 43 Sarton Rd. Clayton, VIC,
in the next street behind Rockby. They ARE associated.

Opening hours are Mon-Fri: 11am - 4pm, Sat: 9am-12pm.

I purchased a couple of TM162A LCDs, with 3 pushbuttons, a couple of leds and
a piezo on a seperate board, and some attached ribbon cable for the grand
total of $1 each. I don't know if the LC displays I bought are 16 x 2, or 16 x 1.
A short google search turned up some 16 x 2s but they don't look like what I purchased.

I had a wander around, some pc power supplies (dunno the wattage) for $9 each,
what looks like professional ERNI racking rails, sides, panels, etc, connectors,
4 digit x 7 segment (and more segments) multiplexed LED displays, direct drive
LCD displays, etc. Heaps of connectors, bar code readers (usb, serial, pc keyboard
interface) for about $50, even a dozen or so large VF displays that are about 40 x 2,
but they need drivers.

The place looks like a mess, so much of what they've got available isn't exactly clear,
neither are the prices, as they're just getting organised.

I have no commercial interest in the company. I found about it today
when I was at Rockby to purchase some goods.

Hello David,
you fellows down in Melbourne seem to be well
served with electronic parts and test equipment
disposal shops. There is nothing up here in Sydney
where you can have a walk round and find good
used gear.
There is a trash & treasure on tomorrow at WIA
Parramatta, but they have been crappy lately, mainly
low quality junk. I will go along anyway just to see
the regular faces and have a chat, even if the junk
on offer is over priced rubbish.

Regards,
John Crighton

These are ex-gaming card reader units.

You were lucky, the box is marked $5-00 - however, if you looked to
the right just towards the back, under a table you would have seen the
entire units for sale, (most in bubble wrap). Includes the TM162A +
small PCB with 3 PB/peizo + a smartcard adapter with solenoid card
eject - all in a nice metal box for $5-00 ;)

You'll find the spec sheet here:
http://www.tianma.com/spec_sheets/TM162AAC6.pdf
I had a wander around, some pc power supplies (dunno the wattage) for $9 each,

Including the SevenTeam ST-230WH used in the Silicon Chip PSU article
- brand new - $8-00!

There's a shi*load of brand new, boxed hand scanners - under $10 IIRC
- plus lots of over interesting things, only wish I'd had more money
:)

(don't bother sending to above email address - it's non-existant)

Yeah, I know. I asked the guy serving, and I think he plucked the number
out of the air. My luck :)

Methinks I'll wander back soon...

Thanks. The datasheet I found indicated it was a COB, under an epoxy blob.

Several different LC displays as well.
