Air vs iron core

When adding an iron core to an electromagnet (as opposed to air) and you gain a multiplication of the magnetic field, are you getting this gain without using anymore electricity?

no, you are not multiplying it, you are just concentrating it in a smaller area ... so there is no gain and no additional power ( electricity)
