Affordable code person?

Has anyone had good experience with an individual who does PIC or
Atmel design and programming at an affordable price?

I have found the businesses that do this are too expensive for my
non-commercial project, so I am hoping to find something more like a
gifted hobbiest who would like to earn some extra cash.

The projects are interesting but relatively simple.

Define "affordable price". Programmers do have to eat and pay the bills you
know.

What exacly are you planning ?, I can do some PIC stuff if you like
depnends on what ? how Big ? and when you need it by though.

not that difficult.

Anyway, what do you mean by "affordable". You are right -- contract
designers are expensive. When I tell people my rates, some say "no, it is
too much", others say "when can you start?". Depends what your budget is.

I consider myself cheap - i bill at $125/hour. I reckon for h/w and
embedded you would have to go up on that simply due to problems that
maybe encountered by poor h/w design.

The ratio of billable hours to actual hours is one of the reasons TRA will
need to bill at that rate.

Approach your local Uni. Some student may need a little extra cash.
Otherwise, if you can program in BASIC, then consider PICAXE.

Thats why I bill at that rate. By market standard, that is cheap.
Include all the time you chase contracts and do sales - $125/hour
isn't a lot of money.

for pic work I could do some, but as I do not do it as a hobby so do
not have the required testing / development tools on hand. I left them
at the last place I worked (they where theirs)

all in all, you get what you pay for..

depending on how "small" the project / job is, it could take a
noticable about of time.
