Hi. Have beaten my head black and blue over this. Late model Advent and
Jensen tv sets out of China. Loses sound and/or responsiveness to controls.

1 - replace N102 sound control chip -- this affects overall system control

2 - DO NOT start until you do next -

3 - on crt board are 2 signal connectors X402 and X403. Both 5 pin
connectors, and can be misplaced. Make note of each ones home before you
proceed - run each of these cables through the large ferrite ring containing
the focus and screen cables. You must take those cables out before the
others will go through. Wrap the signal cables around the ring once then
reconnect all. 3 days in test and just fine so far.

If you don't do the ring thing, set will kill the new N102 chip within 2
days of normal use. I found out the hard way.

Advent came up with this fix, as the problem with these and the Jensen line
is widespread, so they tell me. They just came out with the fix, and I was
one of their test victims to see if it works. Again, so far so good. Owner
said I could have til 26 NOV 2003. He has been super cool about this, thank
God.

Anyway, I hope this may save some headbanging, as it acts like a processor
or eprom problem. Advent sent me those first under warranty, then figured
out the problem.

It has been detirmined that static from crt board feeds back into main board
and kills the sound control chip. This is a 2 channel to 3 channel device,
and cannot be bypassed.
