Ademco Compass Software

I'm looking for the Ademco Compass software for a group of installs coming
up in two weeks. I've got three buildings that are being wired with Ademco
Vista 40s and Vista 6139 addressable keypads.

Anyone have a link to download other than Ademco?? We buy our electronics
through ADI.

Yep. That's what I was thinking.

ADI probably has the CDROM 4sale at the branch.

But.... just wait Nick. Fat-Ass-Bass will chime in any minute giving
away Ademco's property *again*. He doesn't think handing over the
"keys" to someone's else's alarm system is wrong.

Yeah, but those were "Best of Herman's Hermits" CD's, not Compass s/w.

Best bet is to ask ADI for it. They may sell you a CD or give you a
link to download, depends, Ive never bought from ADI. You also need a
modem that works with it. You can buy the external serial Compass
Modem from the distributor (ADI) or any distributor, then they will
give you the Compass software free.

Ever notice how some people who come here go to great lengths to get the
panel, get the software, figure out how the software works then can't figure
out why it won't work with their modem?

Why is that last vital part always overlooked?

Mark, talking about software, I've noticed a wrinkle with the Winload 2.5
SP2 version. For some reason, neither the Cardinal 2400 external or the DSC
MD12 will work properly with it anymore. I have to use the 56K US Robotics
Fax external modem to upload any of my Spectra panels.

I think it might be a defective copy of the software load, because it worked
before. But it also might be the latest Version 2.5 software with a "bug".
If I figure it out, I'll let you know...

Mark and all,
Thanks for the comments.

RANT ahead.....
I asked for the software because ADI didn't have it and yes I have the CIA
module to program the panels. Typically I don't install the alarms on a job
but this is an install that we are required to deliver as part of a low
voltage package which includes automation, a/v, network wiring AND these
alarm panels. I'm not out to steal the package and haven't gotten a
response from Ademco in Louisville yet since they're closed already for the
Thanksgiving holiday. SOMETIMES real guys ask for stuff outside of the
normal channel because it is quicker to get than simply waiting for a
paperpusher. I didn't want to buy the software from some of the flakes
online as it is probably stolen and since I have a long weekend ahead of me
I wanted to get a jump on the programming.

OK now I've vented but really if you are going to contribute to a forum, do
so in a manner of good will verses being an ass. All of us here have
something to offer, expertise, assistance, guidance, good humor etc. Some
people are simply out for themselves and don't offer anything. This is not a
NG that I typically follow but from time to time have solved some issues
from data gathered here. THANKS to those who do contribute even if it is
just a funny story from time to time.

One wierd thing I noticed was you had to set up the modem in 2 places
instead of just the one, can't tell you offhand what those screens are but
you'll know them when you see em

Worth a try assuming you may not have noticed that either

Was not directing my comment to you, just something I noticed from time to
time and it was a reply to something rory said

We had a guy like that last week using DSC software and trying to get it to
work with his standard modem

ADI will give you one copy of Compass on a CD-ROM for free. Just ask. If
your local branch is out of them (sometimes happens) just call me and I'll
send you one.
