Battery charger's SPS blew a resistor on the input side during plug-in (no
"on-off" switch).

Simplest way to prevent similar occurrence in future?

Thanks,

Replace same value resistor with a larger wattage. This
assumes the resistor blew not due to other internal component
failures.

Caution: sometimes these resistors are fire retardant type
because they double as a 'fuse like' device. They blow when
something else, such as an electrolytic capacitor fails.
Replacing a fire retardant resistor with a conventional carbon
resistor could result in a house fire. An inline fuse or
circuit breaker is also advisable.
