I am looking for a way to run a motor clockwise when I apply power and then when I remove power it must run anti-clockwise.

I have the motor attached to a latch and when you put batteries in the motor un-clips the latch and when you remove the batteries it locks again.

    Additional Information:
I only want to use discrete components
the motor is a DC motor

Any help would be much appreciated.

How is the motor supposed to run at all if the power is removed?

I was thinking of a capacitor discharge circuit.

Spring return solenoid would likely be better suited to the application...
