Hey, I was wondering if it was possible to connect a phone to the
computer to use as a microphone ? Ya know, a regular house phone . I've
connected the phone to one of the lines and am lost as to what to do
next if this feat is even possible.
    Thanks,
    KK

If you mean a reasonably modern phone, most use an electret mic just like in
the mics sold to plug into a soundcard.

Just rip the electret insert out the handset and wire a 2k2 resistor in
series and a 10uF cap to the join between the two, you need a 3.5mm stereo
type jack - I think the signal goes to the tip, the +5 to the middle and the
body is GND, all the info is on the net so you'd best check the details, I
may have the signal and +5 the wrong way round!!!

    You don't even need the external bits ( R and C ).

Some soundblasters mic imputs are wired differently to generic cards AIUI btw.

I did some DJ work for an internet radio station and had people
calling in. I made a cable with 3.5 mm plug on one end and 2 rca
plugs on the other. By using the headset feature I plugged in the mic
signal to the input of the mixer and used one of the out channels to
go back to the phone. I think added a blocking cap on the voice side
of the cable as this cordless phone was made for an condenser mic as
many headsets have, but did not want to feed the dc portion ito the
    mixer

I now could talk thru the phone by means of the DJ microphones and
hear people talking to me thru my headset hooked up to the mixer.
I could make calls and receive calls and control the volume on the
    mixer.

    Just a few cents here

For the amount of time and money it would take to do this sensibly, you'd
be better off to just pop down to Radio Shack and pick up a microphone
    for about $2.95.

    Have Fun!

Good point - but sometimes its more fun to play with the electronics and
make something useful with parts from something that was about to go in the
    bin.

  9. Donate it to a teacher. Some like to let their kids dismantle things to see
    what is inside them.
