None, not even a whisper or acknowledgement from Atmel support :(

    Was it an email ?

Have you tried phoning ? Asking for a senior member of staff often does
the trick. Better still get their name first then ask for them by name
when you phone in. It can work a treat. ;~)

I have done both.Initial contact was by phone. The engineer involved was out
of the office for most of the week and has just got back to me requesting
further input, primarily 'lot numbers' from the chips that don't work and
other relevant information, so now I know they are looking into it
    seriously.
From the lack of a pertinent answer in the other lengthy thread, I can only
presume that not many people ( if any) here actually use this device.
I will update when I have more info.

I thought the ED2 was more or less 'standard issue' for a FLASH 8051 now.

    Don't Philips/NXP 2nd source it - or it's damn close.

I'm sure NXP must have an equivalent. Sometimes the old Philips and Atmel advanced
8051 parts have minor implementation differences and some oddball SFRs but they're
    usually damn close.

The Dallas 450 has just about all the same goodies + runs faster+2 comms
ports, reliable ISP via RS232 app, but twice the price. They do a 16,32 and
    64K flash version.

At 5V Philips is a second source. At lower voltages it isn't.

Curious. Many of their '8051s' do down to 2.7V IIRC now.

You can get chrome fenders or a back seat but not both.
    IIRC
