Hello,im new in electronics ,practically i bought 8051 and some more tools and all i need now is to supply it with 5V.What would be the best way to do this?

Welcome to EP.
To answer your question we need to know more details like:
What is the total maximum current needed from the 5V supply.
How "clean" and stable should the 5V be.
Size limitations of the P.S etc.

Assuming you don't intend to operate very accurate analog circuits, only digital stuff.

The cheapest way would be using an old PC power supply for the 5V(you should fuse the 5V!)
If you have one laying around.

Wall-warts (5V regulated )adapters are also a possibility.

Thank you for your reply/.
I need it to learn how the 8051 ,so just for basic stuff like LED blinking,LCD etc..I cant spare a power supply at the moment ,what should i buy?I was thinking some adapter and a 5v regulator or through USB wire.

If the current needed is less than 500mA ,
you can power it from a USB PC port.

Thank you,i read somewere that i can pull out the red and black wires from a USB cable ,is that good or should i buy some USB port for my microcontroller?I bought just the 8051 without any development board .

Still looking at what to buy

Is your 8051 already programmed? Is there more writing on it than a date code and part number?

As far as a programmer goes the 8051 is pretty old. You may have a problem finding one that runs on a USB port. You can spend big bucks and buy a general purpose programmer (best if you can afford it). Or if you are on a budget and want to take the educational cheap route you might be able to build a manual programmer.

I am not on a budget ,its that 8051 has the most guides and projects available so far.Probably gonna get one with USB and other stuff included..tho so far i only found the TQFP version and i dont like.

The 8051 is the programmed (ROM) version it seems as I remember. 8031 is the ROMless version, 8751 is EPROM version. All can be set to use external EPROM, but it ties up all but one port.
You can build a stand-alone manual programmer. I remember seeing a schematic for it but never built it myself. It wasn't a big circuit. Cost was pretty low. Just a few bucks in parts. I could probably reproduce a schematic if you were interested. Same thing for a manual EPROM programmer. The design is about the same.

My inventory list says I have a bunch of 8751s in storage along with a bunch of related stuff I don't intend to use in the future. Would you like a small box of stuff? I will be glad to see them get a good home. My email is [email protected]

Hey,thank you when i mean 8051 i mean the architecture ,so not the programmed version, seomthing like the AT89C51
Thank you for your offer but i need this in the next 2 weeks at most and i live in Europe so delivery will take longer.
Would something like a
http://www.miniinthebox.com/51-scm-...-supports-at89c51-s52-stc89c52_p4027638.html#
work fine for small projects? As far as i see all i need is to place an at89c51 inside it and it will give me basic USB ,reset .
or like this with one already placed inside.

Which one you say is better?
If i understood well in the first one i just place the at89c51 and it provides circuits for reset and USB and the second one already has one placed but it comes also with some EEPROM memory? That means that on top of the 4k flash i can use if needed the 64kb EEPROM too?

"better" depends on your application.

I dont understand a thing,i know that if i want to run a program on a microcontroller i need to burn it to its ROM or external memory.Do those 2 come with such thing or they offer just power to the microcontroller? So far on my list i have resistors, capacitors,LCD screen, some LED's,different cables ,what i need now is a way to burn the program to the microcontroller.I heard the at89s51 can be burned through serial cable using Keil as burner software?

I don't have anything for the 8951 but all other microcontroller programmers I have bought come with programming software or have it available for downloading on the Internet, along with examples. Lots of available help for hardware or software. My preference is programmers with sockets so I can program a chip and move it to another board. The option being dedicating the whole thong to one application.
