741 OPAMP voltage supply ?

I want to use 741 as an adder ..
Will it work fine if i use a +/-9V supply ? One text stated tht it is
not a good idea of using nething below +/-12V ..
some1 pls advice asap..

I think the text is correct. I could not get it biased right with +- 9volts.

Something is not connected properly.
The original Fairchild datasheet shows functionality from +/- 5V up to
+/- 20V.
That is to say, operation from a total voltage ranging from 10V to
40V.
Voltage gain spec at +/- 5V is 10,000 minimum and at +/- 20V is 32,000
minimum.

I consistantly use a split supply from a 9V batt with no problem with any
op-amp , why the fuss ?
