I want to use 741 as an adder ..
Will it work fine if i use a +/-9V supply ? One text stated tht it is
not a good idea of using nething below +/-12V ..
    some1 pls advice asap..

    TIA

I think the text is correct. I could not get it biased right with +- 9volts.

  3. This goes back a long time ago. I have used them on +-12 to +-15 Volts.

    Something is not connected properly.
The original Fairchild datasheet shows functionality from +/- 5V up to
    +/- 20V.
That is to say, operation from a total voltage ranging from 10V to
    40V.
Voltage gain spec at +/- 5V is 10,000 minimum and at +/- 20V is 32,000
    minimum.

I consistantly use a split supply from a 9V batt with no problem with any
    op-amp , why the fuss ?
