No... but you've probably got old computers to get rid of, so 10x used
pc supplies?

NT

Not something one can ship with a new product.
I'm initially looking for 100+

What do you consider ridiculously expensive? There's nothing unusual about
the rating - what other features do you need?

'Ridiculously expensive' - >$1000
Features, not very much. I obviously need short circuit protection and foldback,
but stability is not a great issue - +/- 2V ripple would be OK.
Size/weight/efficiency is not too much of an issue either.

Ideally I want a switch mode PSU for <$200 in quantity.

** Why don't you try designing one in software then ?

48 volts is common in telco equipment.

No, but you are a sad twat for asking so I guess... in a general worldwide
sense you don't know how to give yourself an orgasm and you won't take
advice so it sucks to be you.

13 cents a watt for a non-mass-production switcher? Sounds unlikely,
by a factor of three at least.

Ameritron sells one for use with their linear amplifiers for around $700.
Don't think it is quite 1500W though.

Jameco lists Mean Well 48V 28.5A (1368W) for $620 in quantity of 25;
probably cheaper if you can order 100+. Don't know if that's quite enough
power for you.

John
Part of the problem is that 48V is a favorite of telecom and they have a
whole slug of additional requirements to meet. It makes them expensive.
They are also the volume consumer at 48V, making normal vendors hard to
see. try listing 24V vendors and going directly to the various
manufacturers and looking for 48V supplies.

** Dirk seems to be in the UK ( nice pic of the dude on his site) but
confusingly quoted prices in dollars.

Does Dirk need a 230 AC volt PSU or a 120 AC volt one?

Or does he need both voltages ??

The "Mean Well" ( you just gotta love that name ! ) Chinese made switching
PSU is only rated for a 230 volt supply.

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/st...&catalogId=10001&productId=231722&pa=231722PS

It has full PFC (very nice) but it is three times his stated optimum ( very
optimistic) dollar price.

What is the application ?

Some fancy piece of high tech gear?

Or a truck battery charger ?

Mass produced 24v supplies are made for the industrial controls market
in these kind of ratings.

Thanks.

Both, eventually.
The products will be marketed worldwide.

I assume by the time we are buying thousands the price will come down very
significantly. Or we will have one designed and built in China.

Motor drives, of a sort.

Anyone know a source that is not ridiculously expensive?

We just bought three Nortel 1200W 48V supplies off Ebay for $199 each.
(They were heavy, and I think the international shipping cost as much
again.)

The trick is to search for 'rectifier', because that's what telecoms
folk call what you would call a 48V PSU.
With luck, you can find a dealer who has several of the same type to
sell.

Allan

Powergate shows the MeanWell RSP-1500 (48v, 32A) for $373 at 25-49
pieces, a mere 24 cents per watt. Has a built-in fan, which is nice.

That's more like it.
By the time we get into the thousands we can rip off their basic design and do
our own confident we can make it cheap in China:)
