3D Printer choice

If these two printers were in front of you with the same price tag, which one would you choose?

So which one would you buy and why? I am thinking of getting one with my income tax return next year. Surely by then the Materia will be out. However, I do not know which one would be the better choice.

If you have another preference, then please post it and why you feel it is better.

If my understanding of the review of the dremel unit are correct, then you would choose anything but it.

Why are you limiting yourself to these two devices? Do you have any experience with 3D printers

No experience at all. I have liked dremel for years so I thought they would be a good choice. However, I am a big fan of open source so the Materia is a winner there.

personally I would choose neither,
both come preassembled and as such fixing would take some time.
building a reprap or other one will give you hands on expertise of all the assembly so fixing is easier. also print sizes are limited to 140*100*100 and 230*150*140 mm
these are great to start but you might soon find you will have to glue projects together as you require things bigger. by building your own you can start designing the upgrades
also going of the reprap I built (prusa i3) you are looking at about $500 au as opposed to that $1000 price tag
also these both print filament which is great start but you will soon find out printing 1 colour is annoying. for the true 3d printer having a cheap powder printer that uses inkjet heads (the DPI is outstanding) and multi material support means you can print anything you want like a battle chest plate with multi colour and flex in certain areas (prop purposes only off course) all in a single print.
having said all that I need a programmer a chemist and a genius lol

if you are any good at programming, electronics or being a genius I might get you on board for a project. big task is finding a chemist, the white powder and some acetone.... but that's for something else JK

am looking for a chemist to help me find a special powder that's reasonable in price and offers a few attributes that's specialised to the printer I am after. I was thinking of making a specialised forum that I can watch and get a few people in to help out so we can print a few things

I was thinking about getting this printer but I decided to go with an oscilloscope. It will be a while before I get one.

I plan on getting one myself. I am leaning towards the Ultimaker 2 extended.

I still want one myself. It may be another year before I get to make that purchase though. I am going to buy my wife a Cricut Explore Air machine. I think it may come in handy for many things. That purchase will hinder any other large purchase...except that I plan on buying a soprano saxophone. I have wanted one for many, many years.

Good luck with your printer choice!
