pretty much the same as TOP-3 does, TO-3P seems to be the more common
though, but I hadn't encountered it.

And you didn't even get the fucking joke. At -40 the gain curves of the 2N3055 and MJ2955 are about the closest ever. The joke was that I didn't know if it was Celsius or Farenheit.

OK it specifies at -55 but I don't care, look at them. Can you visualise a line between the lines ?

Damn, you gotta tell some people everything. I thought they had good education down there. That and they got gun control ? ****, I ain't coming then, there are people there who deserve to be shot ! (hint hint).

So quit lusting after those kangaroos (they are supposed to be supper) and get a chart out so you can learn that -40C is the same as -40F.

dissipating significant power ???

Immerse them is dry ice maybe ????

FYI: the published curves are derived from sub millisecond pulse testing at
a few spots and then interpolating.

Plus the gain curve shape is NOT the measure of complementary behaviour
anyhow.

The 2N3055 and MJ2955 were never good complements.

OTOH the MJE3055 and MJE2955 were.

R-22 might work, boils at -40.7

** Err - that is called a "quasi-complementary" output stage - which has
many shortcomings compared to complementary.

Several "tricks" were developed to reduce crossover distortion in class AB
and B QC stages at low current levels - none totally effective.

If using as an open collector switch, the substitute an N-enh MOSFET such as http://www.diodes.com/datasheets/DMG9N65CT.pdf may work. with TO-220

IMO this transistor is not the bipolar grail. The ratings are just not that impressive. There has got to be something out there that would make retrofitting a driver to make a Darlington unnecessary.

Maybe, while even its 1960s to 1980s heyday it was not exceptionally good
at any one thing; but it was reasonably good at almost everything in its
class. Thus volume made it inexpensive and it became a favorite. Much
like the 2n2222 (and 2n2907).
