    hi, i`m making a car battery charger with a 2n3896 scr . does the scr have to be insulated from the case ? i was thinking of bolting it straight on the case for the heatsink .the negative charging lead is connected to the anode and rest of the circuit.

    Hi Mark,

    sorry for a late response, I missed this post earlier
    wonder if you got any info in the mean time.

    looking at the datasheet the stud mount is one of the active connections so will have to be isolated from the case. .... unless of course your case is isolated from either power earth or DC negative rail

    the data sheet shows the next range of devices in that series where the stud mount is isolated
