I have a nexxtech 24v universal power adapter. The end of the DC lead has two holes (for the plug), with - marked on one of the holes. The plug adapter I'm plugging into it has + and - marked, but these are on either side of the prongs that plug into the adapter, so I don't know which of the two prongs should line up with the - sign on the adapter end. How can I determine this?

First determine what your device requires (it's typically centre positive)

Then connect the plug either way around and use a multimeter to determine if the centre is positive or negative. If wrong, disconnect the plug, rotate 180 degrees, and reinsert.

Once you've found the correct orientation, mark both the plug and the adapter so you will know next time.
