220v -110v Downstep converter Question!

Ive got an American xbox 360 console that runs at 110v at 135 watts.Since i live in Europe i use a 220v - 110v (up to 100watts) down step power converter to be able to run my xbox.

Though, My current down step converter gets extremely hot after about 2 hours when the xbox is running on it (xbox uses 135 watts), but not when the Nintendo Wii is running on it (Nin.wii uses 53 watts). I figured it gets hot because the down step converter im using says it works within the range of 100 watts.

Question 1: Is the down step converter getting hot because it can only handle up to 100 watts when the xbox 360 uses 135 watts?

Question 2: If i purchase a 400 watt down step power converter, would it still get hot while the xbox 360 is running on it?

Thanks :) I hope i was clear enough for someone to understand what im asking.

Q1: Yes, of course, you're overloading it..
Q2: No, it will not get too hot (like when using the 100W transformer), but of course it'll still get warmer than when running the Nintendo WII.

Thanks a bunch! I noticed i wasnt too specific earlier, but i have one more question if thats ok.
That 100watt down step transformer that was being overloaded by the xbox broke on me after about 2-3 hours. Would a 400 watt down step transformer also get so hot and break with 150 watt xbox plugged in it?

I'm just trying to figure out if i can safely play my xbox 360 without having the 400watt downstep tranformer melt or overload/ brake on me.

Thanks again for the help! : P

well you would have 250 Watts of overhead, that should be more than enough

I thought I already answered that.. Well, it's as easy to figure out as economy/money is.
You had 100 euro in your wallet and tried to spend 135 euros. Obviously it didn't work out so well.
If you manage to get 400 euro in your wallet then you're free to spend 150 euros with no problems or worries. You'll even have 250 euros to spare.

1 thing I have to ask is why not buy a europen chord for your xbox and Wii? they have the transformers on there so they will supply correct voltage, amperage and wattage. they also come with a small warranty.

Ive definatly thought about that, however it would be cheaper for me to just buy 1 down step transformer that would work for both the xbox and wii, rather than buying 2 seperate european cables for the xbox and wii.

Just the cables for the xbox and wii go for about 30 -50 $ each : S

I got a 100W step down transformer for my WII (US made) recently and was trying to connect a foot masager that I got from Brookestone in the US. The transformer gets extremely hot after about 10-15 min of operation. I'm in the UK now and obviously want to continue using the product and was under th impression the massager is faulty. Saw this post and realized I'm overloading the transformer. Thanks to this post, I'll just get a new one with greater wattage. Thanks!

Glad this post helped someone!

Just wanted to say that I just purchased that 400 watt down step transformer and it works wonderfully! The transformer barley gets warm and i can run it as long as i like when using the xbox 360!

Thanks! :)
