12v to 24v dc to dc converter at 20A max. output ?

  1. Dear All,
    I have to design a 12v to 24v dc to dc converter, 20A max at output.
    I guess a simple boost converter would not be enough for high power.
    Can you refer some specific designs methods?

    Here's a tutorial on the types of DC-DC converters:

    If this is for an automotive stereo application, I'd recommend the design
    method of purchasing the correct part. You might want to look at commercially
    available DC-DC converters which are made for the application. Try:

    They offer a PST-DU700-24 DC to DC Converter which gives 29 Amps peak (1 to 5
    minutes), and 12 Amps/276 Watts continuous. The cost is $125.00 USD plus
    shipping. I don't think you'll beat that with a home-brew switcher, and you
    might have somewhat improved reliability.

    I'd have no problems with a boost converter. Interleave two at 50% duty and
    you'll do nice things to the input/output ripple currents
