I'm trying to make a system to control a 12 volt horn on a car remotely. It needs to operate as normal. I've used a central locking module before but they all seem to have timed outputs now rather than momentary. Any ideas where to get parts?

    Hello
When you say remotely what do you mean. Connected with a wire or using a wireless transmitter? If it is the first option then just a latching switch will do the job. Do you know how much current the horn draws?

I mean wireless. Its a pair of horns taking 20 amps. I have them on a push button via a normal 30 amp relay so ideally need something to put 12volts to the relay coils

As your in the UK you can use 433 MHz for this. You can buy units like the key fobs used for car alarms with the receiver module latching a relay which could then control your relay. Does this sound about right?

Exactly what I'm after but unsure where to get them as everything I keep finding either puts out a delayed pulse for central locking etc or runs low voltage. Any ideas where I get what I need?

Let me have a look for you. If I can't find anything then we could easily design a small circuit as a latch that connects to the remote unit. You up for that?

That's spot on, helps when you know what to search for. Thanks Adam

I ordered the unit from cpc but its website is misleading, I only got a remote. I've spoken to them and even though it says about the control unit on that link they say its only an additional remote and the receiver is sold separately, about another £50!! Going to grab one off ebay
