I have a project I've been working on that draws up to 12 VDC @ 7 amps. It needs to have a robust quick connection/ disconnection with as little heating as possible. The power lines are 12-14 gauge wire. Right now, I've been using a cigarette lighter and plug as that's all I had available (14 ga wires in and out), but there seems to be a lot of heating within the combination- especially at the tip of the plug when removed, and I'd like to switch to better connectors for the job. Suggestions would be welcome and something not too pricey. Thanks in advance.

I would use a RC battery connector like the ‘Tamiya’ connector. Not sure what the actual name is without looking it up. But that search term will bring many examples.
Or Molex or Anderson connectors.
