10 Second Timer Help

I'm building an alarm for my Car. I have the alarm itself built, but I would like a timer circuit to give me at least 10 seconds to disarm the alarm before it goes off. I'm new to the whole forum thing so if anybody has any tips or maybe even a schematic that would be awesome! Thanks!

Google "555 timer", this is a standard component and good for 10s timing.
Details on how to connect the timer to your alarm system depend on the way the alarm system can be put on hold for the duration of the timer's runtime.
