    I'm on my way to buy this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/12v-dc-2a-spdt-miniature-relay-n90ed I understand the reed switches control the coil, and the LEDs strips come off the NO pin of the relay. All connected as per your diagram earlier. Thanks very much for the help

    Thanks for the reply. The supply is from a DC mains adapter 12V 2A. The LEDs draw about 1.4A all together.
