    Unknown Transformer secondary Amperage

    Hello, I've got an transformer of 220v - 12v. The problem is that i don't know the amperage gived by the secondary. How can i know it? Is it possible to know it if i put an amperimeter in short circuit? i'm afraid to burn it if i do. btw, sorry for the ignorance. :)
