Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

I think the problem is my multimeter. It is not True RMS, so it reads the mixed ac and dc incorrectly. I guess the delta powersupply leaks very low.

Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

Yeah, that is the discussion i am basing off. I've also seen a video of worst-case scenario on youtube where someone touches LED board with the iron and the LEDs light up. I'm planning to flash the Ralim, so that's good to know, thanks. For the grounding, my mains earth is safe, i have never...

Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

When i first measured it, i made a mistake and i set the MM to 20VDC, probe the positive rail and other end to mains earth, the MM showed 9.78V. When i did the same with AC range, it showed 13V. Could it mean the AC is only around 3.2V? Measuring the AC output of the PSU the MM shows 40.3V.

Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

So i connected the resistor between mains earth and negative (barrel jacket). The AC component on the positive line shot up to 40VAC when measuring from the jack pin to the same earth spot as the grounding from the negative line.

Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

The TS100 does have a ground connection like this (source: reddit) This should be the schematic part: I'm mostly concerned about damaging vintage BJTs that are low noise, low voltage parts. I've even seen leakage so bad it turned on some LEDs while soldering. People have been using 1M...

Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

I mean AC leakage that occurs on switching power supplies. It's because of the EMI filters. For example, if i take my laptop charger and set my MM to 20VAC, i can measure 9.78VAC between positive of the supply and mains earth. It's not a big deal for most applications but for something like a...

Is MW LRS 100-24 a good power supply? + possible leakage solution question

Hi, i'm looking for a low leakage, 24V atleast 3A power supply for my TS100 station. The Mean Well 100W 24V one is pretty cheap and fits within my budget nicely, i would like to know if it uses any Class Y cap to connect the DC rails between each other. I know it has an earth pin and definitely...

    Harman/Kardon HK6500 restoration - need advice

Well, i read an article on amplifier power supplies and it was recommended to use more (usually 2 like 6000-8000uF) smaller caps because they provide better filtering than a single massive one. I got backup 1000uF 63V high quality caps that i'd like to put there. Also, i measured the original...

Best soldering technique to prevent component heating?

I actually did a destructive test. I took a random bjt i found, measured it with M328 i got today, then heated it up insanely (so it nearly burned my fingers) and let cool off. Measured with M328. Everything was the same, so i guess heating them up once won't hurt anything.

Best soldering technique to prevent component heating?

The only flux i can get here without complicated importing is solid rosin core, i take the wick, put it in the rosin and heat it up, letting the rosin get sucked into the wick till it solidifies. Then i bring the wick over the joint, quickly let some rosin melt and get in the joint area.

Best soldering technique to prevent component heating?

Also, i use multimeter continuity to test solder joints, is that bad or good?

    Harman/Kardon HK6500 restoration - need advice

I luckily got them off. The solder joint was loose enough, i just had to rip off the plastic jacket and take the metal can out seperately. Got new ones 12000uF 80V, measured 11.50mF each, so i'll put some smaller caps with these in parallel.

Best soldering technique to prevent component heating?

yep, i usually have solder wick full of flux, so i pick the old solder up or just hold the wick where i want to solder and let the flux flow on the spot where i need it to be.

Best soldering technique to prevent component heating?

Hi, currently working on my first real soldering job. I know all the theory, heat up the pad and the lead, apply solder, let it flow and lift both off. I have a cheapo station that works well, has peak of 50W, using 60/40 solder. I was resoldering some BJTs, everything went great down under but...

    Harman/Kardon HK6500 restoration - need advice

I looked what kinds of caps are available from atleast somewhat reputable sources, i had option of 15000uF 63V or 12000uF 80V, both Nippon Chemi-con. The 15000uF cap was 40mm in diameter, that wouldn't fit on the PCB, so i bought 2 12000uF 80V and 220uF 63V that i will put in parallel. I'll have...
