With the back off the set, using a mirror, turn on the set using the
Remote !, Listen for the Relay to click ON !! and OFF. Should be close
to the back of the Set.
My guess is the relay is about to give up the ghost entirely, ie I
suspect the relay contacts are badly cooked.
This should come as no surprise after all, I would guess the tiny
contacts have switched ~ 500 watts about 20,000 times, over 15 years of use.
The QD. quick and dirty, is to permanently solder the appropriate traces
on the motherboard to leave the set ON permanently and turn OFF by
un-plugging the Set, or use a switched Power-bar.
The final cure will then be to replace it with a BIG SCREEN TV (HD),
partially paid for by forgoing the cost of replacing the Relay.
