Sharp TV w/ No Sound

Discussion in 'Electronic Repair' started by Geoff Gessner, Jun 4, 2004.

  1. I have a 25" Sharp TV that got wet and now does not have any sound.
The picture is still excellent and the speaker works fine.
    Model 25A-M120
    Any suggestions...
The TV is 10 years old...

    Thanks!

    Geoff Gessner:
Check the menu or look for a switch to verify that you do not have the sound
mode in SAP.... also verify that mute is not on and if there is a speaker
switch on the back of the set make certain that it is on.
Other that all of this simple stuff, if you are looking for specific
do-it-yourself repair suggestions you really need to FIRST do some initial
technical troubleshooting with your DMM and perform a more thorough
technical visual inspection. Be certain when you reply that you include as
much technical detail, component test results, voltage readings, etc,
etc.... as you can. You are our eyes and ears so you need to post all the
    pertinent information that you can.

  3. If this set has electronic volume control (that is, you use the remote and
can see graphics telling you the volume is going up), then crank it up as
high as it will go and then lean in closely to listen to the speaker. If it
is still dead-dog quiet, then the audio amplifier may be the problem. If
you can hear at least a faint buzz, then the amp circuit is probably working
    but the audio source isn't.
