I agree, mostly. I do believe that if you own your system outright,
either through direct purchase or the fulfillment of a contract, you
should be able to obtain the dealer code. I, however, will not give
out the dealer (installer) code while I am providing monitoring or
warranty, or before the system has been paid for. I have had several
bad experiences with a customer trying to change programming, add
devices etc., which required me to go out and service, and twice
replace, the panel or a device. If a customer has paid for the system,
or fulfilled their contract, and wants to cancel monitoring with my
company, then I will surrender the code without argument. I do require
a waiver of liability and warranty, however, before doing so.

To the original poster, I most certainly agree with you on all you say.
However, point of clarification? Why would you give up your unique installer
code to this party. That code "belongs" (in a sense) to you and has a quite
legitimate purpose.

Are you really trying to say, you would dial in and turn the installer code
back to factory.... or you would assist the client to default the panel back
to factory ?

Just curious.....
