And for those of you who are not rude, that I offended by top posting...I
apologize. I am also a member of several yahoo groups, and I have to top
post because the message comes to me as a table....and I can't intersperse
my remarks throughout the message like I prefer to do....

It is a bad habit here..that I will try to correct....

Don't you scream at me or I'll scream back toooooo
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :~p

And yes, roof mounting is plain silly because there's bugger all wind at roof
level in an urban environment.

That needs a caveat. It can be _productive_, but not nearly as effective as
you would like. I have an Air-X mounted on my garage roof. I wouldn't
_dream_ of mounting one on a roof attached to living structures! It's 10'
above the roof, which makes it about even with the peak of the roof of the
house. It works fine when the wind's from the prevailing (SW) direction,
but if the wind is blowing over the house, it's not nearly high enough.
I'd really like it another 30' up, but I made a conscious decision to go
with convenience over peak productivity.

That's a red herring. Nobody suggested it would be an urban environment.
It's still not optimal in any environment.

Which is fine but not really an example of *mounting of small wind turbines
directly on roof structures* is it ?

Agreed, but I see a silly commercially inpired attempt to get ppl who do live in
urban areas to fit these where it's doubly daft.
