If you are so inclined, and I certainly hope that you are, you may
send a financial offering to the Tidwell family at the following
address. I recommend that you send a check payable to Lavina Tidwell.
Please send all offerings to this address:

Lavina Tidwell
1231 Ansbury Dr.
Houston, TX 77018

Anything that you can offer will help this family immensely. Your
compassion is greatly appreciated. If this email is being received by
you for the first time, please read below. Thank you, and take care.
I hope to see you all at the Funeral Home this afternoon as I am
unable to attend the service on Tuesday.

Hello everyone. Mark Matlock here. I am copying text from emails
that I have sent on behalf of the Tidwell Family. Many of you own
companies that have the wherewithall to help the Tidwells in this time
of desperate need. In twenty years in this industry, I have never
lobbied any of you to assist in such an endeavor. This case is truly
unique. Rex Tidwell knew and cared for the vast majority of you. His
personal struggles may be unknown to some of you, but suffice it to
say that he suffered more in his last five years on this earth than
any human being ever should, and his family suffered with him. He's
from our industry: he was one of us. I implore everyone to open your
hearts to the Tidwell Family. If ever there was a legitimate cause
for us to intervene and help, this is it. Please come and show your
support to Lavina and his five children and attend the service(s) for
Rex. I spoke to his widow, Lavina, for about an hour today and I am
telling you that she would not ask any of you for help, but I am. Its
a heartbreaking story and I really hope that you can all find a way to
help. Forget that we may be competitors, or that Rex may have
competed with you, and please approach this situation with human
compassion. Please read from the bottom below to hear the rest of the
story. On behalf of the Tidwell Family, your prayers are greatly
appreciated.

Mark Matlock

Henry,

This is exactly what I was hoping for. I have petitioned the HGCAA to
donate $2,000 and I will make similar pleas to the other associations.
I'll get the Tidwell's address information on Monday and keep you
apprised. The Tidwell family is in financial and emotional dire
straits. They have no insurance (Rex was uninsurable) and a world of
debt - they are in the abyss. Your compassion and pleas for help are
duly noted and greatly appreciated. It is my hope that people will
not focus on what caused Rex's initial health problems, but rather
what he did with the last five years of his life. He paid for all his
transgressions (which many of us have also been guilty of) with five
years of suffering beyond human comprehension, and never complained
once: not once. None of us could have endured the agony that was his
daily life. He was a vital member of the Lakewood Church and devoted
his last years to God and his fellow man. He was a man to be admired
and respected. I hope that this will be his legacy.

I became closer to him after the accident than I ever was before. No
one knows what this man truly went through. The accounts that he and
Lavina conveyed to me are staggering. In the worst of it all, Rex
would have given any of us the shirt off his back, even though and he
had no shirt to give. This is not corny rhetoric, but a true account
of a man who died (literally, for over ten minutes in 1999) and was
reborn. May his soul rest in peace...

Mark

Mark,

Why don't we start a fund? I will contribute $100.00 to start. Let
me know who to send it to and where.

Thanks,

Henry

Greetings All,

I am sure that many of you have heard that Rex Tidwell passed away
yesterday, 4-22-04. Rex will be missed by all that knew him. Please
try to attend his services, if you can, and please open your hearts to
the Tidwell family. Rex left behind a widow, Lavina Tidwell, and five
children. Here is the information on Rex's Services:

Where: Forest Park Funeral Home at 12800 Westheimer

When: Viewing Services will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday
evening. There will be further viewing on Tuesday morning from 8:30
to 10:30, then a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m.

I hope to see you there.

Mark Matlock

In Addition:

Mark Matlock has requested a monetary donation be made from the HGCAA
to the family to assist with arrangements and other needs. Mark's
request, or motion, was made in the range of $2,000.00 dollars. In our
history, donations have been in the $500.00 range. There are
additional needs for the family if someone wishes to donate additional
funds. These items are normally handled in the meetings with a vote
from the members. I would appreciate members responding back to this
email with an amount (or a nay vote) you feel is proper for a donation
in Rex's memory. Please respond by Monday evening and I will tally all
donation amounts and divide by the number of respondents to determine
the donation amount.

For those of you that have been here for a while, a request for family help
was issued on this new group when the accident first occurred and the family
was struggling. Several of the participants of the NG did send
contributions. If you can see fit to help again, please do so! He was a
prince of a guy and did a lot to help our industry. His family needs all
the help they can get.
